Discover the Simple Ways to Slash Your Carbon Footprint –
…without giving up modern lifes luxuries…..
From: Mike Copinger
Hi,
If you are reading this then I can almost take it for granted that you care about the world we live in - and the kind of world you leave to our children and grand-children. That means you know you need to reduce your carbon footprint.
The subject of Carbon emissions dominates the headlines – the debate keeps getting bigger and bigger. Governments are signing global agreements, and passing ever more draconian laws, and raising taxes on all sorts of products – not least your gas, electricity and fuel for your car!
But they can’t seem to agree on what is causing global warming, or give you good advice on what you can do to help. Only last month I saw 6 top scientists “prove” that solar activity is the cause of the global warming problem! So that begs the question….
Is It A Real Threat?
You have no idea what exactly is causing the problem and the scientific community will continue to debate what things contribute the most to the effects – what cannot be denied however are the effects themselves:
The polar ice caps are melting now at a faster rate than ever recorded in history! Has human activity contributed to this effect? What do you think? We are producing massive amounts of pullution, personally and through industry. Not convinced? What about “dead zones”?
The pollution that we put out has created an increasing number of coastal “dead zones”. These dead zones are huge areas of coastal bodies of water that have become so oxygen-deprived that most life has ceased to exist there. Worldwide, there are some 146 dead zones—areas of water that are too low in dissolved oxygen to sustain life. Since the 1960s, the number of dead zones has doubled each decade. Many are seasonal, but some of the low-oxygen areas persist year-round. The world's largest dead zone is found in the Baltic Sea, where a combination of agricultural run-off, deposition of nitrogen from burning fossil fuels, and human waste discharge has over-fertilized the sea. Similar problems have created hypoxic areas in the northern Adriatic Sea, the Yellow Sea, and the Gulf of Thailand. Forty-three of the world's known dead zones occur in US coastal waters. The one in the Gulf of Mexico, (the world's second largest), disrupts a highly productive fishery providing around 18% of the US annual catch. Gulf shrimpers and fishers have had to move outside of the hypoxic area to find fish and shrimp. Landings of brown shrimp, the most economically important seafood product from the Gulf, have fallen dramatically from their record high in 1990. Annual lows correspond exactly to the highly hypoxic years. And then there’s Global Warming
The world is getting warmer, there’s no doubt about that it’s a FACT. Scientists generaly agree that carbon emissions are certainly a contributing factor to the greenhouse effect.
So it’s clear that it would be a good thing if we could all reduce our carbon footprint, cut back on all our carbon emissions.
But what are the right things to do?
It’s all very well to recongnise that you need to reduce your carbon footprint. But what should you do? The government is quick to pass new laws and to increase taxes to try to force you to change your behaviour – but what about some clear advice on positive things that you can do? What about simply giving us the ideas we need to follow? Here at last is the Zero Carbon Footprint Handbook – your straightforward guide to reducing your carbon footprint. So does this mean you have to sell the car and the washing machine and live in the woods?
Give up the good-life? No Way!
